If I could bale grass in the field into silage and then put it directly into the silo, that would eliminate the bunker step. The big hassle is making silage using bunkers, not to mention the delay. I can make 250-500k of TMR at a time, and then pull it out as needed to feed the cows. I rent the TMR mixer, set it on the silo pad, and then dump hay, silage, and straw from the silo into the mixer, make a batch of TMR, then press 'I' to dump back into the silo. I use the grass to make hay & silage, which I then use to make TMR for cattle. So, do I continue to look for a wider forage header that works on hay, or is there a better idea that someone would share with me ? I have had no joy in finding any wider forage headers that work on hay. Also, since the tedder swaths the hay out, I would need a pretty wide header to pick it up, unless I winrow it first, and that would take another pass, which I don't wanna do. I was going to use a forage harvester, but there are only 2 forage headers in the stock shop that do hay, and they are both 3.0m wide, so I don't think they would be any faster than the loading wagon setup, and if I'm gonna pay several hundred grand for a forage harvester just to pick up hay, it needs to be pretty efficient. I'm trying to think of a way to speed this process up. Last time, I picked it up by pulling a loading wagon with a winrower attached to the front of my tractor. Ok, I mowed my huge grass field pulling a tedder behind the mower, so now I have a huge field of hay.
